Throughout scripture we are told to remember the Lord's ways, recount his blessings, and record his workings. We do this so that we can pass these things on to our children, because it causes us to develop a thankful heart, and so that we will give Him the praise and glory when He works on our behalf.
Part of the starting place though, is for our eyes and heart to be open to Him. Are we observant? Are we looking for Him? Are we noticing what is around us?
That is part of the reason why I love sketchbooks. They not only hold all my currant sketches of ideas i could do one day, but also I use sketchbooks as a way to remember the Lord.
I look around me. I try to observe and notice. What do i see? What are common themes, images, colors that attract my attention? Record these! What people are you seeing, what do you notice in conversation? Record these! What verses are you studying, what do they remind you of? Record these!
Then as you find yourself "stuck", as I often do, I get out my sketchbook and remember that beautiful flower, remember that conversation, remember that answered prayer, and I can give Him praise even when I'm stuck. And, then later, maybe one of those little moments becomes a full fledged idea, and becomes the subject of a piece of art.
